Move a help center from Notion to usedocs

Plenty of founders start their help center as a public Notion page. It's fast and free, and it stops working once customers need search, a proper domain, answers in the product, and articles that don't go stale. Here's how to move.

Short answer

Connect Notion in usedocs, choose the Notion page that holds your help docs, and every page under it becomes a draft article. If your Notion pages are public through a Notion site or a tool built on it, you can import from that public URL instead, which keeps images and creates redirects. Then publish on your own domain with search, an assistant, and docs that stay current.

What moves over from Notion

Pages under a parent page

Every page under the Notion page you choose becomes a draft article, with text, headings, lists, quotes, and code.

A fresh structure

Imported pages land together; arrange them into collections in the usedocs content tree.

Public URLs, with the website import

If your Notion help pages are public on a site, the website import can read them from that URL, keep images and simple tables, and redirect old paths on a domain you control.

How to move from Notion to usedocs

  1. Connect Notion. In the usedocs dashboard, open Integrations, connect Notion, and give usedocs access to the page that holds your help docs.
  2. Choose the parent page and import. Pick the Notion page in usedocs and start the import. Each page under it arrives as a draft article.
  3. Organize and review. Group the drafts into collections, tidy formatting, re-add images, and publish.
  4. Add the assistant and connect GitHub. Turn on Ask AI on the help center so readers can ask in their own words, and install the GitHub app so merged pull requests propose edits.
  5. Publish on your domain. Serve the help center on your own domain or a subfolder of your site, and replace links to the old Notion pages in your app and emails.

What usedocs does once your docs are in

A Notion page doesn't know when your product changes or what customers couldn't find. Once the pages are articles in usedocs, the assistant answers customers from them with sources, and every question it couldn't answer becomes a ranked gap with a drafted article. Connect GitHub and merged pull requests propose edits to the articles they affect. What used to be a page you occasionally remember to update becomes a help center that tells you what to fix.

Limits worth knowing

  • The Notion import brings text, headings, lists, quotes, and code; images, databases, and embeds need re-adding.
  • Notion imports create no redirects; links to notion.site pages can't be redirected.
  • Up to 100 articles per import run.
  • Notion stays the place for internal notes; usedocs is for the customer help center.

When to stay on Notion

Stay on Notion if your help center is a handful of pages, customers rarely use it, and you'd rather not have another tool. Move when you need search, your own domain, answers inside the product, or docs that keep up with releases.

FAQ

Can I import Notion pages into usedocs?

Yes. Connect Notion, choose the parent page, and every page under it becomes a draft article.

Do Notion images come across?

Not with the Notion import; re-add them while reviewing. The website import keeps images if your pages are public on a site.

Will my notion.site links redirect?

No, Notion controls that domain. Update the links you control to the new help center.

Can I keep writing in Notion?

You can draft anywhere, but after the move, usedocs is where articles live, get checked against your code, and answer customers.

What does usedocs add over a Notion help page?

Search, a proper domain, an assistant that answers with sources, edits proposed from your merged pull requests, and drafts of the articles customers ask for.
